[1] On the Net by David LeBlanc
This week, some random thoughts on random subjects:
CBN - the Comic Book Network has just elected a new Network
Administration Team. Congratulations go out to Walter Tietjen, Brock
Cordeiro, and Jeff Bennett with my personal good wishes for your success
in guiding the network that sponsors this rag! Long live the NAT!
FIDO - Yours truly has been nominated as moderator of the COMIC book echo
of the Fido Network. The election begins around June 26, so if you are a
frequent Fidonaut be sure to look for the ballot and do your duty. (Now
if I can just figure out how to stick those bribes into an Email
message.) *8^)
TV Guide - did you see next week's TV guide yet? There is a 5 page
comic story that previews the new Hercules comic from Topps with Xena as
a guest star in this one. Kinda hokey take on the old Robin Hood/
Little John impasse at the bridge gag.
CSN - thought I was just sucking up in my review of Innocent Bystander?
See what Cliff and Brett have to say about it in Comic Shop News #469 and
decide if you might want to see what we are talking about.
Dr. Who - another passing I had not heard about until this week's CBG
showed up. Jon Pertwee died on May 20 at the age of 76. Speaking of
CBG, lots of Marvel bashing letters these day AND *don't* read But I
Digress if you don't want to know the secret plot of the movie Mission:
Impossible. I did and I am probably not going to see it now.
Calipari - as in U-Mass coach (not suicide squid - that's calamari), is
going pro. In the words of Gilda (Roseanne Roseannadanna) Radner, "What
do you wanna live in New Jersey for, anyway?" And the burning question
around here this week is, "would YOU move to New Jersey for 15 MILLION
DOLLARS?"
We have Rich Johnston's monthly revelations as well as the CSN top 50 for
you this time. A final Suspended Animation for now, and a summer fill-in
for J. Torres in our Recommended Reading column.
I'll be getting more time to do my own reviews in another week, and I do
have material from the mail but can't do it justice this time around. I
do review everything sent to me at the address at the end of the mag, so
you creators and editors who want the exposure we can afford you, send
your work old or new. Meanwhile, check out this week's issue.
Hmm, I wonder how I can get this Emag listed as the official Emag of
the Olympics???

Subj: About esc.<escape>
Date: 96-06-13 08:46:47 EDT
From: n_4543@ubistc.ubi.pt (Nelson Daniel Pinto)
Hi. I'm trying to get some information on the comic book "esc.<escape>",
written by Stefan Patrucha and Painted by Marc Caribe. If possible, I
would like to know the date of it's editing and the periodicity. Sorry my
english. I guess you understand what I'm trying to say.
Best regards.
Nelson Pinto
e-mail: n_4543@ubistc.ubi.pt
[Sorry, I am not familiar but perhaps someone else is and will respond]
BTW, please don't write asking me where you can buy <insert name>
comics, art or merchandise. In most cases I just refer you to CBG or
your own web browser. All the buying & selling I do is at my local
retailer. I suggest you support yours as well.
[TRIVIA CONTEST]
Apologies to MARTIN Scherer for calling him Mark in the last Trivia
column. I sometimes type too fast without checking myself.
Lots of people got this one right,
LAST WEEK'S TRIVIA QUESTION:
Who is Magnus, The Robot Fighter's father?
From: desada@edc1.edc.ca (Desabrais, Dave)
You've probably got the answer by now, but I'll take a stab anyway.
Magnus' father was Torque from the Harbinger's series
+++++
From: KENSPIDEY
Torque of the Harbingers is Magnus's father. He was born during Unity.
What great comics these early Valients were. I hope Fabian can restore
the line.
+++++
From: vroy@loginius.com
Ye olde Editore,
The asnwer would be: Torque from Harbinger (thank you Unity) (I hope you
WERE talking about the VALIANT one... Gold Key wasn't my thing, hey I
wasn't born yet...)

From: dqr4740@is.nyu.edu (David Rapp)
Just d/l'ed the most recent issue from my AOL account
(DynamiteG@aol.com) and enjoyed it immensely. Good job, I'm looking
forward to future issues, and will be checking out back copies as well.
Torque was Magnus' pop, if my Valiant memory is still
working...Birthquake kinda shook it up a bit.
+++++
From: "Jim, Master of Comics" <smiv@primenet.com>
>Who is Magnus, The Robot Fighter's father?
John Torkelson, Torque, from Harbinger, although you could make a case
for the robot 1-A, simce he raised him.
Jim, Master of Comics
smiv@primenet.com
+++++
From: peter.li@utoronto.ca (Peter Li)
Answer: Magnus' real father is Torque, from the early issues of
Harbinger. Torque and Kris (sp?) concieved the child before Torque's
death and the child was born during the Unity crossover. Thanks to
Solar, he was brought to the future, where he was brought up by the
robot 1A.
